How to Find Us:

High Country Inn is located at Bassetts, which is 5 miles past Sierra City up northbound Hwy 49. We are opposite Bassets Station at the corner of Hwy 49 and Greene Road.

From Sacramento, you've got several choices depending on weather and your local traffic:

1) The fastest way is to take I-80 to Truckee, turn north on Hwy 89 to Sierraville. Hwy 89 merges with Hwy 49 here, and you turn left. Drive about 4 miles to where the two routes split, and take the left fork to stay on Hwy 49.  You'll drive up and over Yuba Pass. The first highway junction is with Greene Road at Bassetts--turn left here, then immediately right into our driveway.

2) In winter weather, avoid going over Donner Summit by taking I-80 to the Hwy 49 exit at Auburn. Exit here, and turn left.  Follow Hwy 49 north through Grass Valley and Nevada City. At the edge of Nevada City, turn left to stay on Hwy 49. (This is well marked.) Follow 49 past the towns of North San Juan, Camptonville, Downieville and Sierra City. Drive another 5 miles to Bassetts--turn right here, then immediately right into our driveway.

3) If you're leaving (or passing through) Sacramento at rush hour, bypass I-80 altogether. Take I-5 north and exit at Hwy 99.  Follow Hwy 99 north to the Hwy 70 turnoff, and follow Hwy 70 to Marysville. Hwy 70 merges with Hwy 20, which you follow east out of town towards Grass Valley. After 12 miles you will come to the well-marked intersection with Marysville Road; turn left here. Follow Marysville Road north for 12 miles; here there is a "T" intersection and you turn right to stay on Marysville Road. Drive another 17 miles, past Oregon House and Dobbins and over the huge Bullards Bar Dam, and you'll come to Hwy 49 near the town of Camptonville. Turn left here. Drive up Hwy 49 past Camptonville, Downieville and Sierra City. Drive another 5 miles to Bassetts--turn right here, then immediately right into our driveway.  (This route sounds complicated, but it isn't. And it's a beautiful drive, with minimal traffic.)

From Reno, you've also got several choices, but here's the easiest one. Follow I-80 westbound out of Reno to the first Truckee exit, which is Hwy 89 north. Exit here and turn right, following Hwy 89 to Sierraville.

From Quincy and other points north, take the merged Hwy 89/70 southeast to where Hwy 89 splits towards Truckee, and turn right here. Drive through the golf town of Graeagle and then about a mile to Gold Lake Road. (There is no sign with the name of the road, but there is a large brown Forest Service sign directing you to the LAKES BASIN RECREATION AREA, and a CalTrans sign indicating "Downieville.") Follow beautiful Gold Lake Road for 17 miles to Hwy 49. Don't turn!  Cross over Hwy 49, and immediately turn right into our driveway.
