Experience Taos, NM and
the casual comfort of the Southwest
at the Cottonwood Inn
Effective November 2013, the Cottonwood Inn has changed from an 8 bedroom bed and breakfast to a
two suite rental.
The two units are suites which include kitchens. Each unit has room for 4 people and both offer exciting amenities like private hot tubs (both an indoor AND outdoor in our Mesa Vista unit), Jacuzzi or Whirlpool tubs, patios, decks, outdoor gas grills, fully equipped mini-kitchens, multiple bathrooms, and more!
Although breakfast and daily room service are no longer included we will provide you with our farm-fresh eggs, local roast coffee beans, and other treats and homemade goods. With advance notice, breakfast, room service and laundry can be ordered for an additional charge.
We are still living on site, but have moved into the main part of the house. Each of the two units will have private decks, patios, and gardens to enjoy and our guests will still be able to greet, observe, and enjoy our many rescue animals.
Shantal and Brantly are avid outdoors people, keen gardeners and enthusiastic students of the culinary arts. Shantal enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities including skiing, fishing, biking, and urban roller skating.
Shantal also enjoys knitting, sewing, soap making, reading, watching movies, and pottery making. Shantal comes to Taos from a life as a college teacher, prosecutor, crabber, and bar owner. Brantly returns to northern New Mexico after a career in the oil industry with stints in real estate and computers. His love for this part of the world comes from growing up in the Santa Fe area. He loves reading, skiing, hiking and geology.
Winston and Eva, two escapees from the SPCA, fill out the Goodwin household. They are allowed in the first floor common areas of the Inn, but are not allowed into the guest rooms.
The Cottonwood Inn has extensive gardens on its 4 plus acres of land. Both of us are avid gardeners and we keep insecticide and fertilizer use to a minimum. The Inn has fantastic views in any direction. In one direction you can see grazing horses and geese and ducks playing in ponds, in another direction are the stunning Sangre de Cristo Mountains. You can wander down to the Arroyo Seco stream, which runs through the western part of our property. Or you can snooze under a cottonwood out with the birds or read a book in the gardens.
Our gardens consist of native trees (cottonwood, aspen, piñon pine and western juniper and dozens of fruit trees), but we also have several lush and colorful perennial garden areas. Most of our plants are quite drought tolerant, however we do indulge in a few of the more water needy types.
Our common areas are very large and comfortable for sitting and reading, visiting or watching TV or one of the many videos or DVDs from our video library. The Inn also lends itself to intimate weddings, family gatherings and other small gatherings.
We had a wonderful time and couldn't have found a better place to get married - under your apple tree. Thank you for the wonderful food, hospitality and beautiful memories! Ron & Janie
As you wander throughout our 7,000+ square foot house you'll find wood-burning kiva fireplaces (11 of them!), dozens of vigas - both shaved and raw, latilla-lined ceilings, nichos containing local art, bancos surrounding private kiva fireplaces, saltillo and hand-painted tiles, and massive lintels which serve to support equally massive hand-carved doors
Situated on over an acre of land, our bed and breakfast has spectacular gardens for you to enjoy complete with the relaxing sounds of the many birds who gather around our courtyard fountain. Our b and b is nestled at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains - which means visitors at The Cottonwood B and B enjoy breath-taking mountain and mesa views. The spacious and elegant rooms will accommodate your every need as you relax in the unique surroundings and enjoy that special ambiance only found in the Southwest, and particularly in Taos.
The Cottonwood Inn provides 2 guest suites each with two private baths. Each unit is unique in style and decor, and furnished for luxury and comfort. Both units also have private patios and hot tubs. Well-behaved pets are welcome in both units. Please call us about our Pet Policy.
Each of our two units are individually appointed providing a wonderful ambiance. Some amenities include:
The Mesa Vista Suite- The Most Romantic place in Taos has now been expanded and made even better than before with both an indoor AND outdoor hot tub!
The Mesa Vista has it all! There are two private decks, one facing southwest off of the bedroom and a second with a private hot tub and 6 foot privacy fencing, located just off the living/dining room. This is the place to enjoy the NM stars the likes of which you probably have not seen.
The master bedroom also features a SECOND hot tub, this one 500 gallons and set in a rotunda under a 15 foot skylight.
Want another way to indulge? Try out the steam bath/shower in the master bedroom which has its own skylight and two separately controlled shower heads. Stretch out on your king-sized bed, light the fire in your oversized kiva fireplace and view Taos Mountain from your window. The rustic natural wood king bed and nightstands were designed for this room by a local Taos craftsman.
There are two HD LCD televisions for viewing DVDs.
There is also a futon couch that can accomodate extra people in the living room area which is located near the second bathroom and includes a Jacuzzi bath tub and shower with handmade tiles and copper hand sink.
There isn't a more romantic suite in any other inn in Taos at any price!
The El Patio Suite
This private and cozy first floor suite is filled with amenities!
Boasting radiant floor heating, two full bathrooms and two fireplaces, you can choose to soak with your honey in a two-person Whirlpool hydro-massage tub or venture out under the stars to the private two-person hot tub on your own enclosed patio. Luxuriate in your king-sized bed in front of the wood burning kiva fireplace or kick back on your patio and read a book.
Be prepared to enjoy great sunset views off the dining area and private patio every evening and spectacular sunrises with fresh ground coffee. Enjoy watching the antics of our emus, Thing One and Thing Two, while you enjoy the farm-fresh eggs we provide you with every day.
The sofa in the dining area will convert to a bed and can accomodate extra persons.
At the Cottonwood Inn we can find an activity to interest everyone. Our goal at the Cottonwood Bed and Breakfast is to give our guests the inside track on what to do and see in Taos. We often have guests who spend an entire week in Taos, and leave with a list of undone things that they want to do or see on their next visit. The list of possibilities is endless and the following suggests just a few.
