"...A family run lodge for 50 years"
"We always assumed that the Spruce Lodge was built
around 1910, but we had a visitor here recently who said that his grandfather built the
Spruce Lodge as his home in the late 1800's", claims Carol Hoffman.
Guy and Alta Wescott purchased the Spruce Lodge in 1949. Their 8
children were old enough to be on their own, so Alta ran the Spruce Lodge
as a tourist home for many years.
Carol Hoffman, one of their 23 grandchildren, bought the Spruce Lodge
from her grandmother's estate in 1986. A few of Carol's cousins were running it as a Bed
and Breakfast, so Carol continued to operate it as a B&B. It was important to Carol to
keep the atmosphere at the Spruce Lodge the same as it was when
she visited her grandparents, but some changes were necessary to keep the building up to
date.
The guest's who now stay at the Spruce Lodge, describe it as
cozy and homelike, and that is the feeling that Carol is after.
With over an acre and a half of property, the Spruce Lodge
borders a large pond at the back of the property
