The Orris House Inn is situated on 3/4 of an acre in the historic district of Mechanicsburg, PA. Just a short stroll down Main Street will lead you to the center of our small town, with its art galleries, eateries, shops and many historic buildings.
Located 10 miles west of Pennsylvania's capital city of Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg is a charming borough of 9,800 residents. Civil War buffs know Mechanicsburg as the most northern point reached by the Confederate Army during the Civil War. In June 1863 on the march to the Battle of Gettysburg, Confederate forces took over the town granary and used it for a hospital. The granary is now Joseph T. Simpson Public Library, housing a collection of pictures and information about our town.
Mechanicsburg boasts a remarkable collection of colonial and Victorian buildings, with a special concentration of Victorian tower homes. Our charming Main Street has been used in movie sets, most notably in the 1999 film Girl Interrupted, featuring Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder. You can still visit Eckel's Drug Store, the scene of the ice cream parlor in the film. For more information about our town history, visit the Mechanicsburg Museum Association web site, Mechanicsburg History. Each June since 1923, Mechanicsburg has hosted the largest one day street fair in the eastern United States. As many as 60,000 people flood Main and Market Streets for Jubilee Day festivities.
