Visiting Brown University or Rhode Island School of Design with your prospective student? The Old Court is the closest inn to both schools. We are a short walk to the colleges and Universities as well as many of the areas best restaurants, stores and other attractions.

All rooms have private baths, some have wet bars, all posses a charm unto their own.

Period furnishings can be found throughout public areas and private rooms and include antique Victorian beds which have been modified so that they are as comfortable and spacious as modern day beds. Each room has it's own TV and phone.

Rates: $115 - $185

Breakfast is served every morning in a beautiful dining room on the first floor. You can enjoy croissants with butter, pastry, juice and a full home made breakfast as you sit in the midst of elegant surroundings.

~History~

The Old Court was built in 1863 by Alpheus Morse. Originally a rectory, it sits next to the historic Rhode Island Courthouse, which currently houses the Rhode Island Historical Preservation Commission.

Italianate in design, the Old Court reflects early Victorian styles including the passion for ornate Italian mantlepieces, plaster mouldings, and twelve foot ceilings.

~Directions~

  • From Rte. 95 : Take exit 22A Downtown, Memorial Blvd.Travel straight through the lights at the end of the off ramp. (Francis is the cross street).
  • Follow Memorial Blvd. through 3 more sets of lights (crossing Exchange, Steeple and Waterman streets).
    At the fifth stop light, turn left onto College Street.
  • Go through the next set of lights (South Main) to the next cross street (Benefit).
  • Take a left onto Benefit and travel through two stop lights (Waterman and Angell).
  • The Old Court will be on your left hand side, #144.
    Parking is accessible from North Court
