|
Built in the 1750's by Robert Brattle, the Brattle House has all the charm, warmth and comfort that a Colonial Newport Historic home can offer.
After searching for the perfect home, in 1997 Barbara and Joe finally found what they were looking for. The Robert Brattle House was, at that time, owned by a man living in Long Island and the property was divided into rental units. He owned this house for eight years, lived in it for f ive and rented it out the last three. When Barbara and Joe walked through the rooms for the first time they knew it had potential. They had been hoping to find a place large enough for themselves and for two Guest rooms, for owning a small Bed & Breakfast was their dream.
On December 17, 1997, for papers were signed and the Brattle House was theirs. Now the real work began. Every wall needed to be painted, which Joe did beautifully. Floors needed to be sanded, furniture, curtains, rugs bought, rooms decorated and at last on May 27, 1998 the doors were opened to the public. It is amazing what can be done in a short amount of time! At first, Barbara and Joe thought that they would only operate a B&B for the Summer months, but it proved to be so enjoyable that they decided to offer rooms to weary travelers year round
Your hosts, Barbara and Joe Tortolani, and their cat "Nutmeg" look forward to welcoming you. Having Guests is more than a business, rather an opportunity to meet people from all over. We see every stranger as a friend not yet met.
We offer two common areas, and elegant yet cozy living room and a delightfully cheerful breakfast room.
Our guest rooms include private baths, AC, Continental Breakfast, TV and parking. The bedrooms both have queen canopy Sheraton Field beds (one bedroom has a working fireplace ) soft colors and a very romantic air, perfect for that get-away that you need! Barbara and Joe look forward to welcoming you.
The Brattle House offers two guest rooms, both are on the second floor, spacious, private and charming. |

| THE BEECHWOOD A Queen Sheraton Field Canopy Bed makes this large bedroom comfortable and welcoming as well as beautiful. The period furniture, fish-net canopy cover, Williamsburg reproduction oriental rug, pewter wall sconces and working fireplace make you feel as if you have stepped back in time. There is a love-seat in the sitting area and a writing desk. The walls are a delicate sage green and ivory trim with accents of pinks, yellows and blues. Delicate lace curtains accent the two twelve-over twelve windows, and make this a very restful and cheerful room. The bathroom has a large shower, an oak vanity and lots of counter space. The walls are off-white with cascading apple blossom leaves. THE ROSEMIST SUITE A Queen Sheraton Field Canopy Bed graces this relaxing and tastefully decorated bedroom. The period furniture, fish-net canopy cover, oriental rug, floor-standing mirror and planted palm compliment this room, as well as the soft peach walls, ivory trim and a faux fireplace painted by Barbara. Being a corner room, delightful light makes this room warm and welcoming. Shutters on the four twelve-over-twelve windows add to the charming colonial feel of this bedroom. The sitting room has a TV, two wing chairs and an ottoman, and is a sunny, pale yellow with ivory trim, also a small closet for your convenience. The bathroom has a clawfoot tub, shower, a marble vanity and plenty of counter space. The colors are white, off white, aqua and lavender; very summery. |
