Our bed and breakfast, the Marshall Slocum Guest House, has been meticulously preserved to reflect the charm and beauty of its Victorian heritage, while offering accommodations with today's comforts. The extensive grounds at the Inn, featuring a large back deck overlooking manicured gardens and a relaxing front porch, offer the Inn's guest a quiet recluse to relax at after a day of touring the Newport Mansions, harbor, shops, restaurants and beaches that are only steps away from our Inn.

  • Famed Cliff Walk: A 10 minute walk from the Inn, the Cliff Walk is a 6.5 mile walk along the ocean edge cliffs of Newport that combines the natural beauty of the Newport shore line with the architectural history of Newport's gilded age. Wildflowers, birds, geology, and a front yard view of the Newport Mansions all add to this delightful Walk.
  • Ocean Drive: Newport's breathtaking Ocean Drive is located just minutes from the Inn and features a combination of wealthy summer homes, public parks, beautiful beaches, and miles of shoreline. The drive can be toured in a car, tour bus, or, for the more adventurous, on a bicycle.
  • The Newport International Tennis Hall of Fame is a beautiful and affordable attraction that is only a five-minute walk from our Bed and Breakfast. Built in 1880 as a private club and playground for the wealthy, this non-profit institution is dedicated to preserving the history of tennis, inspiring and encouraging junior tennis development, enshrining tennis heroes and heroines and providing a landmark for tennis enthusiasts worldwide. During the summer, spring, and fall, guests of the Inn can enjoy lunch overlooking the only professionally played grass courts in the United States.

All of our guest rooms at the Inn feature private baths, Queen or King beds, down comforters, terry cloth robes, Crown Imperial bath linens, and air conditioning.  Some of the guest rooms feature other amenities such as whirlpool bathtubs, fireplaces, ceiling fans, and skylights.

Breakfast at the Inn:

For breakfast, our guests have the option of dining on the large back deck overlooking the gardens, inside the sun filled Dining Room, or in their guest room for a true breakfast in bed experience.

Breakfast begins at 7:30 am with freshly brewed coffee and a selection of juices set out on the side bar in our beautifully appointed Dining Room. At 8:00 am, a selection of cereals, granola, yogurt, seasonal fruit, and freshly baked muffins and breads are placed on the buffet for guests to select from.

In addition to our buffet items, Chef Mark Spring offers our guests two freshly prepared entrees of the day.

Wednesday Night Lobster Dinner:

Every Wednesday night is the famous Lobster night at the Inn. We serve dinner outside on our back deck so that our guests can enjoy the beautiful summer breezes that the ocean brings to Newport Rhode Island. Enjoy meeting your fellow bed and breakfast guests and enjoy the best tasting lobster in town.

We begin with homemade clam chowder, and follow with fresh lobsters that come right from the boats of the Aquidneck Lobster Company located on Bowens Wharf in Newport Harbor.

For dessert, we may serve strawberry shortcake with real whipped cream and freshly picked strawberries from a locally run pick your own farm or homemade brownie sundaes.

Rates and Policies
  • RATES:
      $125 - $275
  • RESERVATIONS:
    Your reservation at the Inn is guaranteed with your credit card number. We do not charge your card in advance. We will accept payment with credit cards, cash, traveler's checks or personal check.
  • CANCELLATION POLICY:
    Unless otherwise discussed and noted in your confirmation there is no charge if you cancel two weeks prior to arrival. A one-night charge is made on your credit card if canceled within two weeks of arrival.
  • CHECK IN/CHECK OUT:
    Check-in time is between 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm. If an earlier or later check in is needed, please let us know in advance. Check out is 12:00 noon. Guests may leave their belongings and their car at the bed and breakfast and retrieve them later in the day.
  • PAYMENT:
    We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover credit cards. We offer a 10% discount for cash payment. A 7% state sales tax and 6% city hospitality tax is added to all room totals.
  • MEALS
    A full gourmet breakfast is served between 8:00 am and 10:00 am. Please let us know when making your reservation if you have any dietary concerns and we will modify your breakfast. Coffee is available at 7:30 am.
    Lobster dinner is served on Wednesday nights to guests on our Gilded Getaway package. If you are not staying with us on our Gilded Getaway Package and would like join our dinner on Wednesday the cost is $40 per person.
  • PARKING
    We have complementary on-site parking for our guests. Upon arriving follow the driveway to the parking area at the rear of the property.
  • SMOKING
    We are a smoke free establishment. You are welcome to smoke outside on the porch or back deck. Guests who choose to ignore our smoke free policy will be charged a $200 fee to cover the cleaning expenses associated with smoke removal.

Our rates include a full gourmet breakfast in the morning, complimentary on-site parking, and first class service. We hope you will be our guest and enjoy all of what Newport Rhode Island has to offer.
