Bed & Breakfast Inn

Front Royal, Virginia

William Edward Carson, an Irish immigrant and limestone baron, appreciated this site and built Killahevlin on one of the highest spots in Front Royal. Mr. Carson, who came to America in 1885 at the age of fifteen, chose the Gaelic name of Killahevlin because of his fond memories of "Killyhevlin" in Northern Ireland where he had spent many happy hours playing with a childhood friend.

During the Civil War this site's vantage point proved to be a strategic location for Union troop encampments. Killahevlin was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register in 1993.

From the first time Susan O'Kelly drove up Killahevlin's curving carriage way, past the limestone wall, to the historic brick Edwardian Mansion with its strong architectural lines and imposing oversized chimneys, she knew that she was home. With a desire to reflect the strong Irish heritage common to herself and the original owners, Susan engaged a talented interior designer and local artisans to help them accomplish the restoration of Killahevlin which has been ongoing since 1990.

Irish Pub

What inn with claims of Irish hospitality would not have an Irish Pub? You won't be disappointed in Killahevlin's with its fitted oak bar and brass footrail, unique bar stools, intimate tables for a quiet game of backgammon or cribbage, and a comfortable couch for the sports fan to watch a game on the telly!  Inn guests may help themselves to complimentary Irish draft beer on tap, wine, soft drinks and snacks.

All six of Killahevlin's guest rooms have been designed with luxury and guest comfort in mind and all have in-room telephone. All four Main House rooms have wonderful mountain views; two of them provide entry onto the large enclosed sun porch offering the perfect vantage point for spectacular sunsets. Both Tower House suites have two walk-out balconies with magnificent views.
