The Hummingbird Inn
Bed and Breakfast

Goshen, Virginia
(Lexington Area)

A unique Victorian Carpenter Gothic villa (born in 1780 and completed in 1853) just west of scenic Goshen Pass on the western edge of the Shenandoah Valley.

Country hospitality amid perennial gardens bordered by a wide trout stream. Relax on the verandahs, or stroll down to the deck overlooking the stream.

Located in the Shenandoah Valley in a small triangle defined by Lexington, Staunton, and Warm Springs, the Hummingbird Inn offers accommodations in an early Victorian setting. Comfortable rooms are furnished with antiques, combining an old-fashioned ambiance with modern conveniences.

All rooms feature private baths, fireplaces or stoves,
individual air-conditioning, and ceiling fans.

Architectural features include wraparound verandahs on the first and second floors, original pine floors of varying widths, a charming rustic den, and a solarium. Over the years Hummingbird Inn has been host to celebrities such as Eleanor Roosevelt, and Efraim Zimbalist, Sr.
A wide trout stream defines one of the property lines, and our old barn was once the town livery. Common rooms for guest use include the den (with satellite TV, VCR, DVD player, and stereo), the spacious living room, solarium, and dining room. The verandahs and front porch afford comfortable seating upstairs and down, and the deck overlooking the stream is a popular place during the day or in the evening with a fire in the chiminea.

Breakfast at the Hummingbird Inn – A full, hot breakfast is served at 9:00. Breakfast starts with baked goods, either scones or muffins and might include fresh fruits in season, an entree such as strawberry baked french toast, waffles, or breakfast casseroles, accompanied by a meat. Our eggs come from free-range chickens living at local farms. Our maple syrup is locally sourced. When available, we serve local produce and meats. We will happily accommodate some special diets, if informed at the time of reservation. Early-rising coffee drinkers will find plenty of freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee and there is always a variety of teas from which to choose.
